A Day in My Life – June 2023

This post contains affiliate links.  Recently a long-time reader asked if I would do A Day in My Life post.  I loved the idea since I haven’t done one of these since my kids were little!  No two days in our week look the same, so I randomly asked Cuddle Bug (13) to pick a day, and she picked Tuesday.  Tuesday was a busy, busy day where we were out of the house most of the time.

If you enjoy these types of posts, I’d gladly do another one sometime later with a different day filled with different activities.

6:00 a.m.–Alarm goes off, but I push snooze twice.

6:10 a.m.–I’m up.  I need about 30 minutes to fully wake up, so during that time, I check my email, read the news online, and check the three blogs I still read.

7:00 a.m.–We’ve lived in New York for nine months, but almost every dentist I call won’t take our dental insurance.  I finally decided to just pick a dentist I think will be good and go.  This morning, I fill out the paperwork for the new dentist.  I’m worried the appointment will take forever because my teeth are a hot mess, and I haven’t had a cleaning for ten months.

When I’m done, I feed the cat her soft food and chase her down to give her her daily medication. (We found out about a month ago when she went temporarily blind that she has high blood pressure.  Thankfully, her medicine restored her sight and is maintaining normal blood pressure, but she really HATES having the pill and has learned to hide when it’s pill time.)

7:15 a.m.–I eat breakfast, which my husband made.  He makes breakfast for us seven days a week.  Whenever he’s out of town, I struggle to make breakfast for us because, while I love to cook, I don’t love to do so at 6:30 a.m.

7:30 a.m.–Brush and floss teeth, then get ready to go to the dentist

8 a.m.–Arrive at dentist.  I hoped this would be a 30 to 45-minute cleaning, but due to some dental issues I’m having, I was there for 90 minutes!  My teeth are sore from the cleaning when I leave.

9:45 a.m.–Get home.  I have a quick snack, check in with my work for 5 minutes.  I then put some broth, beans, and chicken in the slow cooker for the beginnings of Taco Soup for tonight’s dinner.  I begin to write this post so I don’t forget what I did during the day!

10:15 a.m.–Leave to take my daughter to the orthodontist.  The appointment goes quicker than expected, luckily, because we have to be at an event by noon.

11:15 a.m.–Get home from the orthodontist and quickly heat up leftovers for our lunch.

11:40 a.m.–The girls and I head out the door to meet friends at a park 25 minutes away.  Because we only had a short window to eat and get ready to go, I had to leave all of the dirty dishes in the sink.  I’m not a clean freak, but I dislike leaving dirty dishes in the sink.

12:05 p.m.–Arrive at the park.  The girls hang out with homeschool friends while I stay and talk with the moms.

1:15 p.m.–Leave the park so I can make it home for my 2 p.m. work meeting.  The girls aren’t happy about this because we’re the first to leave.  They would have preferred to stay until 3 at least.  🙂

1:40 p.m.–Get home and get set up for my meeting.  The girls hang out and talk to each other.

2 p.m.– I’m in my meeting from 2 to 3 p.m.  Usually the meeting runs until 3:30, so this week was shorter.

3 p.m.–I work on this post while the girls Zoom with their cousin.  I love that even though they live 6 hours away from one another, they can still catch up and chat.

They chat for nearly an hour, so I work on an upcoming blog post about our container garden and make our menu plan and grocery list for the upcoming week.

4:30 p.m.–We leave to go to a ballroom dance class for the girls.  This is their first class.

The girls attended a homeschool prom in early May, and they and their friends started ballroom dancing by watching YouTube videos.  The girls wanted to go to an actual class, so I put out the information for our homeschool group, and 12 other kids decided to join!

5 p.m.–The kids go to their class.  The teacher had them warm up by doing some line dancing.  By the end of the class, they had learned three different actions that were combined to make an impressive little dance.

6 p.m.–We head home

6:20 p.m.–We get home, and I do some dishes.

6:35 p.m.–My husband gets home and changes his clothes.  I scoop up the soup from the slow cooker.  We add Daiya cheese and avocado.  The meal isn’t that popular because it’s too salty and spicy.  Still, we eat it all up.

6:55 p.m.–I take a shower while my husband finishes the dishes and the girls do their evening chores.

7:10 p.m.–I work on this post some more and listen to my daughters talk about the dance class.

7:40 p.m.–The girls and I watch about 30 minutes of television together.  We’re currently watching Umbrella Academy.  My husband is upstairs working.

8:15 p.m.–My husband comes downstairs and we watch some news on YouTube.  We then head upstairs to watch a show together.  We just finished watching Shiny, Happy People, so today we watch Blue Bloods.  Hopefully, soon we’ll find another show to watch.  We often watch Japanese tv shows with subtitles for me.

9:30 p.m.–My husband and I turn in.  The girls are reading in their rooms.  One will go to bed around 10, and the other not until 11:30 p.m.

While this was a busy day out of the house, tomorrow we only have one event that will take us out of the house.  We’ll work on homeschooling (we do a much lighter load in the summer), and I’ll likely spend two to three hours working.
