0:01
the timer went off and your break is
0:04
over
0:09
I’ll give you three more minutes the
0:11
show will be real out here y’all
0:14
schooling so many different people
0:17
I don’t necessarily get to focus my
0:19
attention on one person I haven’t
0:22
mastered
0:23
facilitating the different learning
0:26
opportunities
0:27
my mind automatically thinks algebraic
0:30
unknown solving the equation but with
0:34
the way that he was able to think about
0:36
the problem a picture was a better idea
0:41
getting these kids to think on their own
0:44
is probably one of my greatest
0:46
challenges and when there are so many
0:48
different Minds that work in so many
0:50
different ways sometimes the approach
0:53
to take when helping them develop an
0:57
understanding
0:58
is like
1:01
had that been someone else
1:04
they may have been able to like just
1:07
like in their brain it automatically
1:09
would have been whatever and it would
1:10
have been the opposite problem rather
1:12
than like he would have got the correct
1:13
answers and I’ve been like uh how did
1:15
you get that
1:16
and then he wouldn’t want to explain to
1:18
me with Raya
1:20
we have to let him leave otherwise it’s
1:24
going to be a battle we have discovered
1:25
that if he finishes all of math even if
1:28
it’s just two things or even all of
1:29
writing a grammar if it’s just one thing
1:31
he gets a 10 minute break then he gets
1:34
to come back and choose the next effect
1:36
right now he has chosen to do music
1:39
which is not
1:41
productive
1:42
but it’s productive because it is
1:44
something that he has to do every day
1:46
practice music
1:55
[Music]
1:57
can you play higher
1:59
okay
2:03
okay
2:05
I love that Riot has taken
2:08
um a lot of pride in playing the piano
2:12
um
2:13
it was something that it just seemed
2:15
like he was kind of interested in and I
2:17
know like music is something that really
2:20
gets them going you know what I’m saying
2:22
a lot of times even when he’s supposed
2:24
to be working on his own
2:26
um
2:27
assignments or his own stuff for music
2:30
he is working on his own songs that he’s
2:33
writing himself
2:34
[Music]
2:53
however
2:54
I feel like
2:55
there’s a different order but we have to
2:58
just let him go that is
3:00
anywho
3:04
[Music]
3:23
done
3:25
thank you
3:28
86 1975 40 he missed one
3:32
what did you get
3:34
why does it matter what did you get
3:37
why does that matter
3:39
I’m always surprised when I hear
3:43
what comes out of the kid’s mouth when
3:46
I’m not around
3:48
um
3:50
I’m often like
3:54
you thought he’s gonna get away with it
3:55
like that’s what I just really be
3:57
thinking of me even though he was lazy
4:00
now let’s see if he lets me go over the
4:02
ones he missed with him do you want to
4:04
go over your test
4:09
so we have been sick there are six of us
4:12
in this family
4:14
seven
4:15
including the doctors
4:17
and I don’t know who brought the
4:19
sickness into the house but because the
4:22
sickness had to make it through all six
4:24
of us we have been sick from probably
4:27
over two years
4:30
I’m saying all that to say that we are
4:32
behind two weeks of school and we are
4:36
trying to catch up so Theo now has to
4:39
redo an assignment so that he can
4:40
understand
4:45
see here’s the tell him what’s the
4:48
problem
4:49
I’m the problem no
4:52
oh
4:54
yeah
4:55
homeschooling is hard work
4:58
being a mother in and of itself is hard
5:02
work being a stay at home
5:06
component it just kind of starts to
5:08
compile it’s one of those things where I
5:11
know that there are certain rhythms and
5:13
there are certain routines and systems
5:15
that I have to have in place and be
5:17
consistent about enforcing in order to
5:19
make the days easier but I’m not always
5:21
great at that however I do think there
5:24
is a
5:26
extreme amount of Grace that I have to
5:29
learn to extend to myself and to my kids
5:32
because without that
5:36
I would have quit a long time ago do you
5:38
want to talk about tall tales sure okay
5:41
Tall Tales are stories that are not true
5:44
he had long legs as tall as the trees in
5:49
his backyard every day he wanted to come
5:54
into his home but he was too tall now
5:57
you have to write your own tall tale
6:00
which I think you’re going to do an
6:02
excellent job at you’re pretty good with
6:04
your imagination so you need to be
6:07
thinking about a character
6:10
you need to have one hero
6:13
I don’t know who’s gonna be right here
6:16
who’s your hero going to be me okay
6:19
right what’s happening I shoot fire from
6:24
my face I tell the future there we go
6:28
okay I would call the character Beau
6:30
instead of Uriah hey
6:36
you know what we should have done
6:38
we’re gonna be at the dragon’s Castle
6:42
fighting
6:43
the hero farted the the villain
6:47
thank you the hero said the smell was as
6:52
bad as a thousand stars
6:54
so the heroes is a death part yeah
6:59
basically hot dog please
7:03
it sounds great right it’s actually boys
7:08
even in the hard moments there are some
7:12
bright spots like today watching Raya
7:14
get excited about his tall tale story
7:16
was super sweet because I know that he
7:20
is someone who enjoys reading and he’s
7:23
got a really good imagination like one
7:25
of the things that Raya does well is he
7:27
plays with his brother and sister with
7:29
the action figures and the dinosaurs and
7:31
the Barbies and he’s got a really good
7:33
imagination and the way that he enjoys
7:36
reading I could totally see him becoming
7:38
an author at some point in his future so
7:41
watching his him kind of brighten up
7:43
during that portion of our lesson was
7:45
super sweet I feel like the thing that
7:48
keeps me persevering in
7:51
my homeschool Journey
7:53
is the ability to get to know
7:58
and watch my children’s brains work in a
8:01
different way I will not lie and tell
8:04
you that it’s easy with four kids it’s
8:06
challenging which is why I’m super
8:08
grateful for Lexi being here to help me
8:10
I would say to the Future Yvette it’s
8:14
worth it
8:15
one day at a time one lesson at a time
8:20
I would say don’t
8:22
to give up on yourself
8:24
you got this even within the challenges
8:28
there are
8:31
some Sweet Moments I recently went to a
8:35
homeschooling conference and there was a
8:38
panel of women that were speaking about
8:41
homeschooling and one of the women said
8:43
they only have one mother
8:46
you know they can have several different
8:48
teachers and so I think sometimes even
8:51
though you start down a journey not
8:54
being afraid to like consider other
8:56
options for example I have Lexie
8:59
sometimes teach lessons or help
9:01
facilitate the kids getting their
9:03
assignments completed we’re doing a
9:06
hybrid model right now so two days a
9:07
week they go to another teacher
9:10
and every year of homeschooling has
9:12
looked different for us so I feel like
9:14
next year could be completely different
9:16
but
9:18
I would just say that like if you are
9:21
feeling discouraged on your
9:22
homeschooling Journey find some ways
9:25
um
9:26
to relieve yourself of some of those
9:30
responsibilities and enlarge your
9:32
capacity
9:33
there are co-ops there are drop-off
9:36
options there are different Charters
9:39
that are homeschool charters for
9:40
homeschool families there are lots of
9:43
things out there to explore in order to
9:45
make it easier for yourself and more
9:47
enjoyable for your children so that you
9:49
can show up with a larger capacity and
9:51
more joy love patience and kindness in
9:54
your heart you still have food in your
9:56
mouth did you finish eating foreign
10:08
subscribe
10:11
for this entire season I think
10:15
I’ve learned
10:16
that
10:18
we my wife and I are in two different uh
10:22
places you know what I mean and we’re
10:25
both in
10:26
you know challenging season it doesn’t
10:28
mean they’re bad Seasons or whatever is
10:30
just challenging like we’re having to
10:32
discover new levels and new gears that
10:35
we didn’t know we had no problem solving
10:38
solutions that we didn’t have we had to
10:40
lean on the community more more
10:43
guys know that in this time
10:46
um we would love I would love to see a
10:47
lot more people being more patient with
10:50
themselves I know how difficult the
10:52
holiday season can be and how much
10:56
we can overthink a lot of our
10:58
relationships uh complicate a lot of our
11:01
processes to fit in festive things even
11:05
if we don’t feel like it and so so be
11:08
gentle with yourself give yourself
11:10
permission to be cautious and gentle
11:12
with you those of you who are new here
11:14
you’re probably expecting some holiday
11:17
content and we’re going to postpone our
11:20
regular schedule to give you guys some
11:23
holiday stuff right so you’ll get
11:26
updates on Theo his hockey stuff you’ll
11:28
get updates on you know what Ryan’s
11:30
gonna do and a nice development and more
11:32
homeschool content and all that stuff
11:35
um after the holiday season because
11:36
right now we have so many dope videos
11:39
about to drop right now
11:41
um I’m super excited I’m interested to
11:44
know how you guys like the new uh
11:46
documentary format where we sit down and
11:48
we do interviews during the actual video
11:50
I’m really excited about that too I
11:52
think that’s dope
11:53
um things are progressing along in my
11:55
office and stuff like that but
11:57
um yeah I want to defense space with you
11:58
guys and let you guys know that we do
12:00
have holiday content coming soon happy
12:02
holidays
12:03
um thank you guys for watching check it
12:05
out keep your network popping if you’re
12:06
fortunate enough and doing life with
12:07
someone else makes you watch this video
12:09
with them if they’re not around share it
12:11
with us
12:12
hello hello hello
12:15
[Music]
12:16
